Boomer Women: Are You Taking Charge of Your Health?

MP3 File

charge-of-healthYou do have a choice for whether you lead a life being ill, frail and dependent or a life of luster, independence, vitality, and productivity. You have more than 50% control of your health, in your own hands, according to the Centers for Disease Control.  That puts you in charge of well over half of your health.  Even the parts we don’t have control over can be improved upon by how you take care of yourself.

Sadly, the life expectancy in the U.S. ranks at 42nd place. How did we allow that to happen? There are certainly many reasons why this is so, but one reason for sure is that many people do not pay enough attention to their health. Be truly honest with yourself right now.  Are you:

– eating properly?
– exercising at least three times per week?
– eleeping 7-8 hours each night?

You hear people complain about healthcare and there a many valid reasons to do so, but the other piece is your own personal responsibility.  The best healthcare plan in the world is worthless if you don’t choose to live a healthy lifestyle and make good choices for yourself.

Here is a frightening statistic: In the age group 65 years and up, 9% are chronic smokers, one-third don’t exercise, 40% are overweight, and 23% are considered obese.  Are you part of this group? If so, what are you going to do about it?

Personal responsibility and self-care are a must if you wish to lead a longer, healthier and happier lifestyle. There is no way around it.  No one can do that for you.

There are those of you who may have inherited certain cancers, heart disease, hypertension, and the list goes on. But you do not have to settle and assume there is nothing in your control and allow the disease to run your life.

Most women need a compelling reason take care of themselves, to put themselves first.  What is yours? Do you want to live long enough and healthy enough to enjoy grandchildren or even great grandchildren? Do you want to look great in your clothes? Do you want to wake up every morning feeling wonderful and looking forward to your day? Do you want to simply look at yourself in the mirror and smile because you look so good? Whatever the reason, there must be at least one.  Otherwise, you will not feel the need and get that ‘why bother’ attitude.

This is the only life you have and you make your own choices about how you chose to live it. Take good care of yourself and your health and you will be rewarded with all the gifts you deserve.

Look around you and notice the circle of women you surround yourself with.  Do these women have positive attitudes and healthy habits? Do they eat right, exercise and generally take great care of themselves?  If they do, you are more apt to do the same.  The company you keep may have a direct correlation to your self-care and your self-care has a direct correlation to your health.

The time to begin taking charge of your health is today. Right now. No one can do that for you. You can’t blame others for your bad habits.  You can only be responsible for yourself. What action step can you take right now to start taking charge of your health?

I have learned over time that the aging game is best to eat, exercise, keep your thoughts pure, be thankful and grateful. Associate with like minded people and enjoy every moment!
I not only energetically change myself but, my children! That is worth learning and growing as a person more then any thing else I have discovered!
