I am not saying this to be ominous by any means but I think you get my drift.
The autumn of any year has many meanings for people. It means the ending of summer, the beginning of the school year and buckling down and the knowledge that the New Year is not far away.
For those of you in business it may mean it’s time to start thinking about how your business is going to look in the coming year. You certainly don’t want to wait until January 2nd to start thinking about it.
When is a good time to start this thinking process? Right Now!!
Look back over your business for the last year. How did it look for you? What pieces were successful and what pieces were not what you would have liked them to be? This is a time to be brutally honest.
Clearly you want to keep what is working, even though you may tweak it a bit so that it keeps ‘fresh’. Then there are those other pieces that didn’t quite work out the way you would have liked. Now is the time to decide whether they are fixable or just need to be deleted and start fresh.
Here are some things you might want to take a look at when you start thinking about your business in this next year. Even if these ‘pieces’ are in place my experience is they can always be improved upon.
•Are you incorporated
•Do you have a business account at your bank and a business credit card
•Are you tracking your income and expenses as well as you could
•Do you have a viable Niche
•Do you know who your Target Audience is
•Do you know who your Ideal Client is
•Do you know what their ‘pain points’ are and if they are ready to pay to have them removed
All of the above are necessary for a profitable and sustainable business. None of these can be left out, they are that important. There really can’t to be too many short cuts when you are going after a successful business. But you already know that.
What other things can you look at to get yourself prepared for a successful business in the New Year?
•Your ‘pink spoon’
•Your Social Media
And then of course, there is that part about how you manage your time. I know you feel energized in the fall and are ready to roll but then you have your holidays and all the time and energy that entails. So, how are you at managing your time?
All that said, when you have all your business ducks lined up, what programs, products or services are you going to offer next year? One of the things I do is not just look at what I have done in the past, whether it was successful or not, but I look at what other people in my field are doing. What programs are they doing, that’s working for them, and is that something I would like to do?
So many things to think about aren’t there? No sense putting it off, that New Year is right around the corner! Cheers to you for putting your time into planning now and not letting time get away from you!
I would love to hear what you have planned for this New Year in the comments below.
